Lake Korission is widely considered Corfu’s premier wetland ecosystem. Spanning over 400 hectares, this shallow coastal lagoon is separated from the sea by a narrow strip of sand dunes and a rare cedar forest. It is a protected coastal lagoon on the southwest coast of Corfu and is one of the premier birdwatching destinations in the Ionian Islands. Serving as a critical stopover for migratory birds traveling between Africa and Europe, the lagoon and its surrounding sand dunes, reed beds, and tamarisk groves support well over 130 species.
