Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)

The Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) is a large wading waterside bird characterised by its long legs, S-shaped neck, and sharp bill. It features grey feathers, a white face, and a distinctive black stripe running from the eyes to the back of the head. Found near wetlands, rivers, and lakes across Europe, Asia, and Africa, it primarily feeds on fish, amphibians, and insects. Known for its elegant, slow flight, the Grey Heron is often seen standing motionless in water, patiently waiting to strike at prey.
