ROPA VALLEY
The Ropa Valley (Livadi Ropa) is one of Corfu’s premier inland birding hotspots, containing a vast floodplain of agricultural fields, meadows, scrubland, and scattered drainage ponds. Because it combines dry grassland habitats with pockets of fresh water, it attracts an incredible diversity of migratory and breeding species. The valley is particularly famous for its high concentration of shrikes, birds of prey, and vibrant passage migrants.
Because the valley covers a wide expanse, the best way to explore it is by car or bicycle via the network of quiet agricultural tracks branching off the main roads near Ermones and Giannades. You can slowly explore these roads and stop at suitable places along the way, or park around the GOLF CLUB and walk along the stream.
Public transport:
Green Buses B16, B18 and B19 stop roughly 500m from the Golf Club, which is itself a very good area for birding.
