European Bee-eater (Merops apiaster)

The European Bee-eater (Merops apiaster) is a strikingly colorful bird with vibrant plumage of green, blue, yellow, and chestnut. It has a slender body, pointed wings, and a slightly curved bill perfect for catching insects mid-flight. These social birds often perch on branches, giving their distinctive trilling calls. Found across Europe, bee eaters favour open habitats near water, where they hunt for bees and other flying insects.
