LEFKIMMI-ALEKES
The Lefkimmi Salt Flats, also known as Alykes Lefkimmis, are a historic industrial site and protected wetland located near Molos on the southeast coast of southern Corfu. The abandoned salt pans have reverted to nature, forming a rich marshland and protected wetland with over 180 bird species recorded there. The shallow lagoons serve as an important sanctuary for egrets, migratory birds, and famous flocks of flamingos.
Where to bird: Wander around the saltpans and surrounding tracks.
Public transport:
Not particularly convenient for this site as, from the nearest useful bus stop, it’s roughly a 40-minute walk, so a car is recommended.
