Widow spiders are in the family 'Theridiidae' which also contains tangle-web spiders, cobweb spiders and comb-footed spiders which is a large family of diverse, globally distributed spiders of over 3,000 species in 124 genera. These spiders are the most common arthropod found in human dwellings throughout the world.
