Splitgill Mushroom (Schizophyllum commune)

The Splitgill Mushroom (Schizophyllum commune) is one of the most widespread fungi in the world, found on every continent except Antarctica. Its common name comes from the unique, longitudinally split "gills" on the underside of its cap, which protect its spores during dry periods by curling inward.

The Corfu Nature Website currently contains over 6,000 photographs of  more than 1,100 wildlife species found on Corfu.
