Flies

Fungus-gnat (Sciaroidea spp.)

Fungus-gnats are small, dark, short lived, mosquito-like insects. They comprise six of the seven families placed in the superfamily 'Sciaroidea'. They are weak fliers and are most often seen crawling on the surface of potting soil, flying in short, erratic bursts, or hovering around plants or windows. They are often mistaken for fruit flies but are darker in colour.
