Dance Fly (Empis stercorea)

The Dance Fly (Empis stercorea) is a large species belonging to the family Empididae, mainly found in Europe. It is a predatory insect, and like other dance flies, gets it's name from their aerial mating swarms which seem to 'dance' together in the air. Female dance flies have large inflatable sacs and hairy legs to make them more attractive to males.
