Batman Hoverfly (Myathropa florea)

The Batman hoverfly (Myathropa florea) is a common and widespread species known for the distinctive bat-like pattern on its thorax. As an adult, it is an important pollinator, while its larvae, known as "rat-tailed maggots," help to break down rotting organic matter. Despite its black and yellow, wasp-like appearance, it is a harmless insect.

The Corfu Nature Website currently contains over 6,000 photographs of  more than 1,100 wildlife species found on Corfu.
