Black-tailed Skimmer (Orthetrum cancellatum)

The Black-tailed Skimmer (Orthetrum cancellatum) is a widespread European dragonfly found near lakes and ponds. Males have blue abdomens with black tips, while females are yellow-brown. They bask on bare ground and are fast, agile fliers. Larvae develop in still water, preying on aquatic invertebrates and small fish.
