A medium sized, white butterfly in the family Pieridae (White, yellow butterflies)

The Small White (Pieris rapae) is a small to medium sized butterfly of the whites-and-yellows family Pieridae. It is easy to confuse it with the Large White (Pieris brassicae). In Europe it is known as the small white but, confusingly, it is known in North America as the cabbage white, the same as the Large white!
