Delattin's Grayling (Hipparchia volgensis)

A medium sized, brown butterfly in the family Nymphalidae (Brush-footed butterflies)
Flying in May | June | July | August | September | October

The Delattin’s Grayling (Hipparchia volgensis) is a cryptic, brown-gray butterfly found in dry, rocky habitats and open woodlands. It has mottled underwings that provide excellent camouflage against stones and bark. This species is mostly active in summer, often resting with wings closed. It is native to parts of southeastern Europe and western Asia.
