Cardinal (Argynnis pandora)

A large, orange/green butterfly in the family Nymphalidae (Brush-footed butterflies)
Flying in August | September

The Cardinal (Argynnis pandora), is an orange butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is common throughout southern Europe and is also found in northern Africa and the Middle east but has rarely been recorded in Corfu. Its similarity to the Silver-washed Fritillary may mean that it has been seen, but misidentified.

The Corfu Nature Website currently contains over 6,000 photographs of  more than 1,100 wildlife species found on Corfu.
If you find something new that is not in the database, please submit it to the website.
