Brimstone (Gonepteryx rhamni)

A medium sized, yellow butterfly in the family Pieridae (White, yellow butterflies)
Flying in March | April | May | June | July

The Brimstone is a large butterfly with characteristically veiny and pointed wings. It can easily be mistaken for a female Cleopatra which are often seen flying at the same time. See the 'ID Tips' page for a comparison with the Cleopatra.
