The Pygmy Cormorant (Microcarbo pygmaeus) is a small waterbird belonging to the cormorant family, roughly the size of a Mallard duck. They inhabit freshwater swamps, shallow lakes, river deltas, and reedbeds where they feed on small fish. The species has been slowly expanding its range westward into central and western Europe in recent years.
