Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus)

The Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus) is a medium-sized waterside bird with dark plumage, white under-tail markings, and a bright red frontal shield. Common in wetlands across Europe, it walks on floating vegetation using long toes and feeds on plants, insects, and small aquatic animals. Agile swimmers and strong fliers, moorhens are often seen skulking among reeds and waterside vegetation.
