Magpie (Pica pica)

The Magpie (Pica pica) is a striking black-and-white bird in the crow family, with iridescent blue-green wing and tail feathers. Common across Europe, it is intelligent, social, and often bold around humans. It is omnivorous, feeding on insects, seeds, carrion, and eggs. Its loud chattering call and long, graduated tail make it easily recognisable in open countryside and towns.
