The Common Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula) is a small, stocky, and highly energetic wading shorebird with distinctive banded plumage and quick, darting movements along the water's edge. It is native to the Arctic coasts, and northern Eurasia but Arctic breeders travel south to spend the winter months along the coastal estuaries of the Mediterranean, Atlantic Europe, and Africa.
