Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros)

The Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros) is in the family Warblers/Flycatchers and is a small bird with striking features. Males are primarily black with a vibrant red tail, while females and juveniles are grey-brown with a reddish tail. Found across Europe and Asia, they often inhabit urban areas, rocky terrains, and open landscapes. Their diet includes insects, spiders, and berries. Known for their energetic behaviour, they frequently flick their tails and emit a sharp, distinctive call.
