The Black Snail Beetle (Phosphuga atrata) is a predatory European beetle known for its specialised diet of live snails. It is the sole member of its genus, Phosphuga. When disturbed, the beetle tucks its head under its body and may secrete a foul-smelling yellow fluid in defence.
