Bees/Wasps

Spiny Mason Wasp (Odynerus spinipes)

The Spiny Mason Wasp (Odynerus spinipes) is a species of potter wasp (Eumeninae) native to Europe. It is particularly famous for its unique engineering skill. Females excavate nests in vertical banks of hard clay or sand. They use excavated material to build a spectacular, curved mud "chimney" (up to 30mm long) over the entrance, which may protect the nest from rain or parasites.

The Corfu Nature Website currently contains over 6,000 photographs of  more than 1,100 wildlife species found on Corfu.
