Bees/Wasps

European Paper Wasp (Polistes dominula)

The European Paper Wasp (Polistes dominula) is a slender black-and-yellow wasp common across Europe. It builds open, umbrella-shaped paper nests from chewed plant fibres. Social colonies are founded by queens in the spring, with worker wasps caring for larvae. They predate caterpillars and other insects, but also feed on nectar and play a role in natural pest control.
