The Marginated Tortoise (Testudo marginata) is the largest European tortoise, native to Greece and the Balkans. It has a dark, domed shell with flared, serrated edges at the rear, giving it a distinctive outline. Preferring dry, rocky habitats, it feeds on grasses and herbs. Long-lived and hardy, it is a protected species threatened by habitat loss.
