Glass Lizard (Pseudopus apodus)

The Glass Lizard (Pseudopus apodus) or Legless Lizard, resembles a snake but is actually a lizard. It is found on Corfu and, has a long, slender body, up to 1m in length, with smooth, shiny scales. It gets its name from its ability to shed its tail, like glass breaking, to escape predators. Glass lizards inhabit grassy fields, open woodlands, and sandy areas, feeding on insects, spiders, and small vertebrates.

The Corfu Nature Website currently contains over 6,000 photographs of  more than 1,100 wildlife species found on Corfu.
