Eastern Montpelier Snake (Malpolon insignitus)

The Eastern Montpelier Snake (Malpolon insignitus), found in Greece, can grow up to 150cm in length and is quite common. It feeds mainly on lizards but also on rodents, birds, amphibians, and other snakes. It will defend strongly if threatened by hissing loudly and pretend to attack. Although venomous, the risk to humans is low because its venom is weak and the fangs are located at the back of the upper jaw.

The Corfu Nature Website currently contains over 6,000 photographs of  more than 1,100 wildlife species found on Corfu.
