Sloe Hairstreak (Satyrium acaciae)
A small, brown/grey butterfly in the family Lycaenidae (Gossamer-winged butterflies)
Flying in May | June
The Sloe Hairstreak (Satyrium acaciae) is a small, elusive butterfly with brown upper wings and delicate white streaks on the underside. Like most hairstreaks, it rarely shows its upper wings, usually resting with them closed and displaying the undersides.Found in warm, scrubby habitats across Europe, it relies on blackthorn (sloe) as its larval food plant. Adults fly in early summer, feeding on nectar from wildflowers.
