Stubble Rosegill (Volvopluteus gloiocephalus)

The Stubble Rosegill (Volvopluteus gloiocephalus) is a large, edible mushroom in the family Pluteaceae which is not highly regarded for its culinary quality. The mushroom is most distinctly identified by its sticky cap, gills that turn from white to pink with age, and a sack-like volva at the base of its stem, which can be hidden underground. Its common name comes from its frequent appearance in stubble fields.
