Flies

Common Fruit Fly (Drosophila melanogaster)

The Common Fruit Fly (Drosophila melanogaster), is a small insect with red eyes and a tan body. Widely used in genetic research, it has a short life cycle and reproduces rapidly. Found near decaying fruits and vegetables, it feeds on yeast and microorganisms. Despite its tiny size, the fruit fly has contributed significantly to scientific understanding of genetics and heredity due to its simple genome and ease of study.
