Flies

Common Flesh Fly (Sarcophaga sp.)

The Common Flesh Fly (Sarcophaga sp.) is a medium-sized, grey fly that is easily recognised by the three dark longitudinal stripes on its thorax and a checkered pattern on its abdomen. Unlike many other flies, it gives birth to live larvae rather than laying eggs. These flies are commonly found near dead animals, and their larvae feed on decaying matter.

The Corfu Nature Website currently contains over 6,000 photographs of  more than 1,100 wildlife species found on Corfu.
